The Santo Antonio dam, on the Madeira river, in Brazil, is a highly controversial investment approved by the government of president Lula in 2007. As the satellite pictures show bellow, the dam is a major obstacle for the water flow, and consequently also for the fish species. The Madeira river is the largest tributary of the Amazon river.
